I find it difficult to comprehend those who betray others and themselves, oscillating between the sacred and the profane. It perplexes me when individuals attend religious services while being deceitful or engage in deception while claiming to be devout – “They go to church to cheat, or they cheat and go to church, or they do it simultaneously”. How can they approach God in faith without feeling ashamed of their mediocrity and without humbling themselves? While I acknowledge the inherent sinfulness of human nature, I struggle to understand those who persistently sin without remorse, hindering their spiritual growth – They hide within religion.

I firmly believe in the power of spiritual evolution, transcending our sinful tendencies. However, it is important to note that it is contrary to biblical teachings for a blessed person to habitually and persistently engage in sinful behavior (1 John 3:8-9). In light of this, the Apostle Paul admonishes us to examine ourselves, to ensure our faith is genuine and Christ is within us (2 Corinthians 13:5). As Christians, we may stumble and fall into sin, even unintentionally, due to the sinful nature that remains within us (Romans 7:15). Yet, like Paul, our response should be to despise sin, repent sincerely, and seek divine grace to overcome it (Romans 7:24-25).

Although we don’t have to succumb to sin because God’s grace is sufficient, there are times when our faith weakens, and we deny our beliefs through our words or actions, much like Peter did. However, even then, there is an opportunity for repentance and forgiveness of our sins. Let us strive to continually pray, acknowledging that we are a work in progress, expressing gratitude, obedience, and demonstrating our faith through our actions as we navigate this world with the hope of one day being united with our Heavenly Father.
